Drunk driving charge results from pedestrian accident

Some mistakes stay with people for a long time. They may think about their actions and feel immense regret, but in some cases, they may have a lot more than regret to deal with. For instance, if a person is involved in a drunk driving accident that causes harm to another person, criminal charges are likely.

Recent reports indicated that such an accident took place in Oklahoma. A 44-year-old man was driving a vehicle northbound when he failed to remain on the roadway. The vehicle drifted to the left of the road and hit a pedestrian who was standing in a ditch. Additional details regarding the accident itself or how authorities became alerted to the situation were not given in the report.

The incident resulted in the pedestrian suffering critical injuries. That person was airlifted from the scene to an area hospital. No identifying information was provided for that individual. The driver of the car was not hurt in the accident, but he was taken into custody on a charge for DUI alcohol. It was not mentioned what caused authorities to suspect that alcohol was a factor in the event.

Being accused of drunk driving is no laughing matter, and when the incident also involved injuries to another person, it becomes more serious. This Oklahoma man will certainly want to ensure that he understands his legal options for defending against the allegations brought against him. Such charges can have lasting consequences, and he undoubtedly wants to work toward lessening those consequences as much as possible for his case.
